A.R. Rahman
' 127 Hours '
A.R. Rahman, known as Madras, Mozart was already famous in Bollywood when Danny Boyle Tapped him to score "slumdog millionaire."Only that both helmer and composer would go on to win the Oscar for this effort confirmed the rightness of their partnership. but what about the distinctly American "hours of 127," follow-up of Boyle "The"?The new image, based on a true story of extraordinary determination, is set in the Utah desert, its history largely limited to actions of a single, stationary, character substantially (Aron Ralston, played by James Franco), trapped in a crack rock. Absent completely teeming slums are India and flourishing of malls.
"The biggest problem of A.R. is that he gets pigeonholed", says Boyle. " He is a composer, exotic, and I realize that is the description of him ".
"What we tried to achieve was immense energy, no self-pity," Rahman says of his score "127 hours". "We wanted something always uplifting. That is the primary emotion. We also wanted to suggest the hope for the future, which is the image of his son and motivates the future for the entire process of liberation. "
To achieve these goals, the composer has exploited the typical American sound of guitars, both acoustic and electric. "He is a person, and he is young," says Rahman, "so we decided on guitars that communicate and even live drums. At the same time, I was trying to do things slightly differently. I used a lot of textures, a little orchestra and the lullaby, which arrives at the end. Is a film very difficult to pull off, because you want people to come out with a mood lifted, even if the story is heartbreaking. "
Speaking of which ... just, as viewers have found difficult watching Aron sever forearm to live, so did Rahman."Imagine," he says, containing barely his queasiness, "I had to see that 70 times for score!"
The key to everything was defying expectations. The composer compares the film music at room temperature in a movie."It was very easy to get up and go," he says."But we're off, diluted to make the right temperature.Instead of going to multiple, music takes a back seat. That is unusual.Usually you go high, higher, highest. but not here.
