Documentary filmmaker good night sleep dreams

Audiences are waking up the talents of the city of New York filmmaker Alan Berliner, who has his latest documentary "Wide Awake" at the Sundance Film Festival 2006. Emmy Award winner examines its own life struggle with insomnia, a problem that may be caused by some 80 disorders different sleep that plague millions of people.

In this first person account that Berliner, writing and narrative, he considers that his insomnia as a blessing and a malédiction.alors works 24 hours feverishly cataloguing reels film and memories and editing (and re-editing) his latest projects, he realizes that the countries most calmly and quietly enjoys sleeping a good night of.

"Since I am patient had insomnia and extreme OWL night to boot, I had good and bad days, making the film - which was painful and funny when I was too tired to really work on the film," he said.

In addition to the fatigue, the classic sleep deprivation symptoms include increased noise, irritability, and pain sensitivity confusion, stomach and hallucinations - what may seem comical, although very painful for the Insomniac.

Using filmed old and oldies songs, "Wide Awake" tells the highly entertaining story of how Berliner seems change its internal video screen, which operates 24 hours on 24, news, features and documentaries. He wants to melted in black, but does not seem to turn off the projector in his mind.

Berliner fascination for the connection between information, films and sleep overload began his experimental "City Edition" more than 25 years ago film (1980) list.it this black and white short - a single cat nap of a film, so to speak - it uses a printing of the newspaper to start the movie, which includes quite a dizzying found sequences, including the former articles across Mount in the world. Each movie clip links visually, phonetically or thematically until a pattern loose émerge.À film, a man whirls and extinguished late in his awakening, indicating that the images rush does that was a dream and only momentarily significant images.

"The goal to show images that dream is to provide a non-sense meaning." "Use"City Edition"dream sequence is a way to bind table overwhelming information... which is inextricably woven on the experience of modern urban life," says Berliner.

It takes pleasure to explore the "" plant where random and implausible connections juxtapositions are and can be manufactured... every night."" This is where it gets really asleep luxury.

Like many other artists, Berliner claims to do his best work after midnight. As other artists, he also prefers to explore issues près.Ses previous films are more like personal essays that actual documentary they ask more questions they met. ""The Sweetest Sound" examines the universal relationship between a person and his/her identity name. "Nobody is undertaken" takes a look of warts-and-all to his deceased father. "Intimate Stranger" recounts life of his grandfather travelling at "The Family Album," combines found monde.et sequences of old movies House, make a statement on the role of family in our lives.

"These films are designed to transcend the specificity of the details of my own particular family," he said."In the spirit of how memories are supposed to work, my story becomes a window opens a series of questions... and new ways to look at themselves offer viewers."I'm trying to exploit the common experience that people have levels.»

If the common experience is now family relationships, the realization of your identity, or simply try a little eye shut, Berliner takes seriously its position staff essayist.

"I like to think that I have a contract with the public," he says. "They trust me enough knowledge that I consider not to be complacent or sentimentalize.Mes films are open and honest and in a spirit of openness of a subject, with humour and irony, where appropriate, with naturally pathetic.»
